Shooting Positions

The organisers can prescribe different shooting positions that will include supported and unsupported combinations of:

The standing, sitting, kneeling and prone positions will be as follows:

For some of the finer details on the standing, sitting, kneeling and prone positions, please see rules and regulations sections A.1 - A.7 p.6.

During a typical hunt, natural supports in the field are used to provide a more stable shooting position, ensuring a more accurate shot. As far as practical, natural rests are also used in IHRSA competitions. When more than 2 shooters are on the firing line though, artificial supports are used. The main reason for this is to ensure that all the supplied rests are the same and some competitors do not get an unfair advantage.
